These look like they were used to transport molten metal.

The balancing tower. Works similarly to inclines at slate quarries. The weight of the truck going down on the rails pulled a wagon back up. In this system water was used as ballast as the loaded truck with materials was coming up whereas at the slate quarries the loaded truck was going down.
