The end of the dam has been demolished. Water from here was piped down the valley to power machinery.

The lever sticking out nearest us is the brake. A "brake man" would regulate the speed of the wagons.
The steel wires are wound opposite, the weight of the wagon going down pulled the empty one up.

Upturned slate wagon. It would have been fitted with two sets of wheels to run on the incline rails.
