When the village was alive it had it's own school and a shop. All supplies had to be transported up the mountain to the village, in the end it became too expensive and the village closed.

Each cottage had it's own front garden.

Nestled in amongst the waste tips the village did get some shelter

from the elements.

I have returned from a great weekend away. 

Taken more pictures but must finish the walk around the quarry.

The stream makes it's way down through the forest, not a lot of water at present.

Looking back along the waste slate level, it's interesting to see nature is slowly reclaiming what's hers and covering up man's scars on the landscape.

From halfway down the incline you can also get a good view of the dressing sheds behind the engine house.

Walking along the old tramway towards the top of the incline.

Looking down from the top of the incline. Usually slate was transported down inclines, this one is different, slate was brought up the incline. A gravity system was not possible here, at the bottom of the incline was a steam engine which provided the power. There would have been rails on sleepers from top to bottom for the slate wagons to run on.   The small pond to the left of the engine house provided the water for the engine's boiler.
