Llanberis pass, Dinorwig slate quarries.

The weather on Wednesday 23 July was a perfect summers day so I decided on a totally new walk for me. It would take me through the old slate workings and close to the Dinorwig hydroelectric power station. The route, approx 4.5 miles round trip, is indicated on the map below.

The route.

View from the car park.

Over the bracken.

Dried up river bed.

Looking towards the lake and in the distance, left of centre, Dolbadarn castle.

Park in the Llanberis pass.

After leaving Denbigh in the sunshine we were greeted by low cloud at Llanberis, shot some pic's anyway.

Plaque.

Track at the beginning of the park.

Mine entrance, pitch black inside and bars at the entrance.

A party of very young girls were doing some rock climbing. With no helmets etc there seems  to be a total disregard for their safety, not sure the adult in the picture was suitably dressed either!

Our first view of the castle. It was positioned here to guard the village from an enemy coming down the Llanberis pass.

Small falls in the pass.

A small road bridge. there are some massive rocks scattered around the pass.
