I'm sure the locals must have a name for this massive rock, would be interested to know.

The main incline comes into view.

All the winding drums I have come across previously have been single ones, one wire winds as the other unwinds. However, with the length of the levels on this site two drums, connected by a single shaft, one lowering the slate wagon and the other pulling up the empty one is employed. All the necessary power provided by gravity, a brake system is still required to control the speed .

Walk to Wrysgan mine.6

I have returned! Loads of new pic's which I shall start to upload as soon as this walk is completed.

Took this on the way out of Blaenau Ffestiniog yesterday after my walk in the mountains. They once provided comms for the slate mine.

Walk to Moelwyn Mawr.9

Not quite sure about this, looks like it could be a ventilation shaft for the mine below.

Did this walk last week, the sun was shinning but the wind was blowing hard and it was freezing!
