The walk around the quarry is complete, once again I hope you found it interesting.

All that remains is to take the road back down the valley, fortunately I can drive the final leg.

Next to the tree in the foreground is the sluice gate which regulated the flow of water
to the machinery further down the valley.

Today we leave the village and arrive at the lake. This was once a quarry but filled with water when no longer in use. The water was then piped further down the valley to power the slate cutting machinery in the dressing sheds at the Penmachno quarry.

The back way out of the village.

If you look at the ruin right at the back you will notice the holes in the wall that supported beams. This must have been a two story building which is unusual, maybe it housed the school and shop.

Only two rooms to each cottage.

A small outbuilding, the large slates formed the roof.

A slight lean! Slate was a great building material, this wall would have been slowly moving for years but is still standing, no modern wall would remain this way for so long.

The building in the background may well have been the school and shop.
